Ward 4 Storm Damage

Dear Constituent,

Please let me know if you are seeing storm damage that needs to be addressed by the City, The Dept of Public Services had a good portion of their personnel working last night and this morning clearing trees and working with National Grid.

The Mayor has been in contact with Councillors about the City's response.

I have called in some problems just to make sure DPS is aware, most notably California Street which has some downed trees in the middle of the road and a bunch of other places with branches that will need to be picked up in the next few days.

Let me know what you're seeing that needs fixing.

Thank you,

Councillor Ed Cameron

P. Preservationist's Endorsement for City Council At-Large

With a thank you to P. Preservationist for the endorsement, you can find the reasoning of the anonymous blogger/educator/provocateur (in a good way) in this post http://ppreservationist.wordpress.com/2011/10/21/p-preservationists-endorsement/

By the way, P. Preservationist is a great read with a new post pretty much every day.

School Building Group Recommendation on Bres

The Newburyport School Building Committee reached a consensus last night on their recommendation to the Mayor for a design.

The details of the story are in the Daily News at http://www.newburyportnews.com/local/x345565217/School-group-decides-on-design

I attended the first night's presentations and they were pretty impressive. Let's just say that schools have come a long way since I went to 1st grade in 1968 in the Albert F. Hunt School in Bridewater, MA, the same school my grandmother attended in 1914.

Those old schools were built to last and hopefully our new choice will make it a long ways into the future.

From the News:
HMFH Architects Inc. of Cambridge was one of the four firms vying for the design contract.

In reaching their decision, Newburyport building committee members said the East Fairhaven model school was the most economical and best suited to educating the pre-kindergarten through third-grade students of Newburyport.

Fall Hydrant Flushing

CITY OF NEWBURYPORT

DAILY HYDRANT FLUSHING LOCATION:

October 12, 2011

8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Ferry Road Toward Moseley Avenue

8:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.: High Street to Newbury Line

FALL HYDRANT FLUSHING

Newburyport—The Newburyport Department of Public Services, Water Division will begin flushing the city’s water system on Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Beginning in the City’s west end and proceeding east, flushing will take place between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Large mains along High, Merrimac, and Water Streets and the Industrial Park area will be flushed at night from 8:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m starting October 11 – October 12th.

Residents are advised to call the Water Division Business Office for daily work location details.

During this flushing program, residents may experience temporarily discolored water, although measures have been taken to minimize this inconvenience. The following suggestions will help avoid problems with discolored water:

1. Check for discolored water before doing laundry to prevent staining.

2. If you have discolored water, wait 15-minutes and run the cold faucets. This will allow time for the discolored water in the main to pass your house.

3. Avoid using bleach in laundry as this worsens the staining.

4. In the event clothes are stained, there are products available that will remove the stains when re-washing the clothes. The Business Office does have a supply of this product. Do not dry stained laundry.

Water Division Business Office personnel can be reached at 978- 465-4420 for further information or to answer questions about this process.
